May 2011
Great shopping, great restaurants, great gaming, and even a
sing-along to the much-maligned classic YMCA
(complete with hand motions). What am I talking about? Those were just some of the “perks” at
the third annual Florida Communities of Excellence Awards. Many attendees of
this year’s awards presentation voiced their enthusiasm for the great location,
the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, which offered such a variety
of things to do.
But, obviously, I believe the best activities were included
in the Communities of Excellence Award Program itself. The expanded agenda for
the day included CEU classes; an opening luncheon; round table discussions on
relevant issues; and ask the experts tables. There were also sponsor exhibits;
an afternoon reception; and the awards ceremony emceed by Jimmy Cefalo, the
former Miami Dolphin and well-known media personality.
It was a very busy day! It was also a very rewarding day
because we were able to experience firsthand the excitement of the finalists
and winners in the different award categories. We also had the opportunity to
meet many board members and managers of the communities that attended.
As has been the pattern, we received inquiries after the
event from communities that wanted to be part of the program, but had not
entered in time to be considered for the 2011 awards. The good news is that we
expect the award program to be bigger and better in 2012!
So, if you missed
out, then look for how to enter at www.communitiesofexcellence.net. Start
making your plans now to be a part of our 2012 exciting event.
We look forward to relating the innovative ideas and
accomplishments of the finalist and winners throughout the year. We at FLCAJ want to express our gratitude to award
cofounders Becker & Poliakoff and the Pen Group, our 2011 sponsors, and
you, our readers, for your commitment to excellence and for your support of
these awards.
